Due to a dry cough, and advice from the UK health authorities, I am now in my first day (out of seven) of self isolation.

I think my supplies will see me through, but if not, I have many good neighbours who will buy any needed groceries for me (not as gifts: I'd be paying for them).

Holy Crap!!! The freakout just arrived in my city! (midwest)

I always go to Whole Foods at about 10:30 am; usually quite, not crowded. This morning: jam packed, carts loaded, some shelves empty, all lanes open and lines. I saw my first person wearing a surgical mask there and again in the parking lot leaving; a father and his 2 (?) year old son both wearing surgical masks!

I know the cashier there and I jokingly asked her if there was a sale; she said you should have seen it at 8:45 this morning.

Now I am glad I have 6 months toilet paper! Seriously!

This whole toilet paper thing isn't an issue in Italy, the most infected country after China.

Why is this?

Simple: in Italy every single home has a bidet...

Fortunately toilet paper is still not a problem, here in Italy. The only things that are running out of stock, at the moment, are insulin, drugs for kidney and heart/blood pressure ailments, pain killers, psychiatric drugs for people with severe psychiatric disorders, and certain foods for people with glucose/lactose intolerances.
Oddly enough, while our government has imposed that all public offices, restaurants and pubs should remain closed up till April 3, the only pubs that can stay open are those who sell tobacco products

Cigarettes are always stocking up like it was Judgment Day, regardless of this emergency.
Even in a huge disaster like this Big Tobacco and the government doesn't care about people dying.
Shame on them, really.

My friend text me this:

Things will get worse when the President declares a National Emergency here at about 2 pm in 20 minutes.

The government is recommending people have 3 months supply of non perishable foods and other items. Impossible! Not with the way people are acting like animals and the supply chain can't keep up with demand.

I called a local supermarket and ask them if they were busy. Whoever answered the phone told me it's beyond crazy and recommended that I won't waste a trip going there.
