![]() Many are saying that there have been a great many deaths from CV-19 that are not being recorded among the official death tally because they did not occur within a hospital.

There are other methods that are being working on to possibly reduce the most severe effects of the virus so that the number of people needing to be hospitalized because of it is reduced to a manageable level and to make other therapies available to treat people more effectively so they has less of a chance of dying. Those types of advances would reduce the need for a total lockdown but that's not going to happen tomorrow either.

![]() Over nearly three weeks from Feb. 26 to March 16, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States grew from 15 to 4,226. Since then, more than half a million Americans have tested positive for the virus and authorities say hundreds of thousands more are likely infected.
“We have it totally under control,” Trump said on CNBC. “It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.” 'We're winning the battle, we're winning the war'. All 50 states are now under a major disaster declaration amid the CCP virus pandemic. The epidemiologists knew. The public health officials knew. The ones who didn’t were the ones with their heads up their asses who didn’t want to listen to those who knew. Politicians lie like most people breathe. The government literally had a playbook developed by previous administrations. It was ignored or never read, just like the user manual for your vacuum cleaner. |

![]() I vote this thread be locked, at least for a few days. It's gotten way too political and way too mean spirited to be of any use.

So far, in playing whack-a-mole with posts that wander off the reservation, nothing has gotten out of hand for very long, as I'm here several times per day. This is all new for all of us... Coronavirus, life as we know it, modding the discussions thereof... all of it. So we're all bound to make mistakes once in a while, as emotions briefly get the best of us... it's what makes us human. The water will find its own level eventually, as long as there's a chef here to keep an eye on the pot as it simmers. |

This particular one deals with a life or death situation that potentially affects each and every one of us, and our loved ones. It falls to the political leaders of each nation, worldwide, to decide what steps should be undertaken in order to save us from oblivion. Only a lack of reason would encourage our Planet to ignore the CV-19 threat and deny it to be discussed here, and with these discussion, only a short sighted person would demand no discourse over the actions of our leaders, or lack thereof, be a valid part of it. Us Planet Suzians are all over the world, and we all face this great threat: the only thing that is different is how our leaders decide to go about taking care of the problem. Forbidding such discussions from taking place during this pandemic would be an obtuse course of action.

We've never experienced anything like this on a planetary scale... yes, there have been moments throughout history (WW I, WW II, Cuban Missile Crisis, et. al.) where situations involved other countries, and could have spread to many more, but this is something which is affecting nearly every country on earth, in varying degrees. As such, politicians are the ones making the decisions as to how to combat this, and what steps we need to take. So politicians, and indeed, heads of state, are the 800 lb. Gorillas on the couches in the various COVID-19 living rooms. The closest we've seen, as far as approaches on a planetary scale, are sci-fi movies where earth is attacked by an evil species... which... this can sort of be seen as. It's a discussion which needs to take place, occasional slip ups aside. To talk about, process, and digest the components of the virus, and how we deal with it, without acknowledging and even occasionally questioning the political spectre, is like trying to use the alphabet without using vowels. And how we handle the discourse, and knowing where the line is drawn, is a testament to our civility and maturity. Overall, I'm pretty proud of everyone here for properly framing the picture and exchanging points of view. |

![]() The issues with nursing home residents says a lot about this virus and the state of nursing homes. One in my area is a "national leader" if you will. Certainly older folks are more susceptible, and being in my 60's I am also of the over 50 relatively high risk group. In Texas, at least where I am, tp fer me bunghole, a la Beavis and Butthead, is impossible to find, same as most other paper products. As a sidebar, consider reading the book by Rose George "The Big Necessity" if I remember the title correctly. Oddly, I think, ammo is also a memory for the most part. The local grocery stores are erecting plastic barriers at the checkout stands, masks and the like, some have em some don't. I saw in an email from Dave Mustaine's Megadeth website, if you bought a recent recording as a bonus, you would get a facemask with their mascot printed on the front. They were out of stock.
