I hope you know I hold you in the greatest regard: I see you as a man of integrity. It is hard abiding by General Discussion Rule #02a. Keep topics fun and entertaining when we are discussing an issue that can't be swept under the carpet, so that all of us Planetsuzyans can just pretend there is nothing going on out there that we should worry our pretty little heads about a thing. The facts are simple: there is a global pandemic, we and our loved ones are all at risk of death. The steps that are taken to combat this are made by politicians. These politicians, hopefully, take on board the scientific advice provided by their expert advisors. If a political leader says that his police and army must shoot to kill anyone breaking isolation rules, while another states there is nothing to worry about, we should be allowed to engender a discussions around this, within the sole realm of this thread and this thread alone. I haven't seen people launching attacks against other members here: if anything I can say that I witnessed an unprecedented level of respect and civility towards each other. If I was an Admin, I would shut down any other thread that deals with the pandemic so that this remains the only venue to legitimately allow it on the Planet. I would also only remove offensive posts that attack other members, and not the politicians who are supposed to save us all. I have had a post removed that basically detailed the career and background of the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, despite me not naming any single politician, or me expressing any form of political comment. and keeping it as politically neutral as is possible. This kind of censure should be avoided in these difficult times. I think the best way for the Moderating team to deal with this, is to prioritise cracking down on false and alarming posts that spread fear and uncertainty, just as is now happening on major social media sites. Once this is all over, and the dust has settled, would be a better time to decide what posts now considered legitimate, should be expunged from our Planet's history. I hope that this day arrives soon, and that all of us are still here to see it. Stay safe you all, alexora

The rules regarding political and religious posting seem pretty clear to me, but I had no hand in implementing them. However, it is part of my job here to enforce rules, when the need arises. Obviously, in many Coronavirus-related reporting, there has been criticism of politicians everywhere, at all levels, for many things; yes, it's sad we cannot look past that for the time being and focus on the matter at hand, but it is our nature sometimes to point fingers first, instead of waiting for the right time, though there never really is a right time. Any COVID-19 news is invariably going to include politics. And if we strictly enforced current rules, a fair number of posts (and maybe entire threads) would've bitten the dust. Politics, as it applies to Coronavirus, is the 800 pound Gorilla on the couch... you can't miss it. So to allow for conversation and informative dissemination of news, it's only natural we allow a wider berth, where news stories (as well as other, more personal posts) are concerned. But when such stories are introduced or prefaced or sprinkled with any kind of opinion, which some may take offense to, a line must be drawn. We have members posting here from all over the world, some closer to an epicenter of COVID-19 than others. This is affecting us all, in different ways, on different levels. There's no rule book on how much to allow; it's all feel and judgment. Keep in mind that this is something we've never experienced in our lifetimes... something which has affected the entire planet (no pun intended), and has caused a (hopefully temporary) sea change in how we conduct our lives. Do we institute new rules down the road that are prefaced with "in case of global pandemic..."? Balance that with being proactive as to not have someone spark an argument (or something more serious), and you see it's not an easy proposition. I don't wake up and say "today, I have to delete 20 posts...". Yeah, I'm gonna be seen as the bad guy in all this; so be it... wont be the first time, but my alliance is to the integrity of the forum. That being said, because of this post, I reviewed the posts I deleted earlier today. I have deemed your post regarding Dr. Fauci, as well as the responding post, permissible per current context. However, when restoring the posts back to this thread, it causes a bug where I cannot move beyond page 99 of the thread. I will consult with staff to see if/how the posts can be restored, and will do so, if possible, for the sake of fairness. |

![]() A mayor ordered police to crack down on social gatherings. They found his wife at a bar
By Harmeet Kaur, CNN April 7, 2020 (CNN)A mayor in Illinois pleaded with residents last week to follow the state's stay at home order. After officers reported that people were continuing to defy the rules, the mayor said he had directed the city's police department to use its discretion in issuing citations and arrests. "These are very serious times and I'm begging you to please stay at home," Brant Walker, mayor of Alton, Illinois, said in a briefing on Friday. Less than 48 hours later, police broke up a gathering at Hiram's Tavern in downtown Alton. Among those in attendance: Walker's wife. Walker announced in a statement on Monday that police had investigated and stopped a social gathering in violation of Illinois' statewide order around 1 a.m. on Sunday. He said police also informed him that his wife was there. "I instructed the Police Chief to treat her as he would any citizen violating the 'Stay At Home' order and to ensure that she received no special treatment," Walker's statement read. Illinois' stay at home order prohibits all public and private gatherings of any number of people outside a single household or living unit. The Alton Police Department said in a press release it had received several complaints that the tavern was continuing to operate on weekends. Officers found no unauthorized activity until Sunday when "several individuals were located inside Hiram's Tavern in an area outside public view, clearly disregarding the executive order and public pleas for compliance," according to the release. Alton police confirmed to CNN that officers issued a criminal complaint for reckless conduct -- a class A misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 364 days in jail and/or a fine of $2,500 -- to everyone who had gathered at the bar. The mayor said in his statement that he was embarrassed by his wife's actions. "My wife is an adult capable of making her own decisions, and in this instance she exhibited a stunning lack of judgement," Walker said. "She now faces the same consequences for her ill-advised decision as the other individuals who chose to violate the 'Stay At Home' order during this incident." "I am embarrassed by this incident and apologize to the citizens of Alton for any embarrassment this incident may cause our City," he added. |

![]() Was this wise? How do they know none of those people leaving Wuhan or arriving in Wuhan don't have the virus? Don't need to have symptoms to be a carrier.

![]() They're probably not allowed to go to other parts of China yet, unless they have that green tick on their mobile app from what I understand.
