I wasn't really familiar with some of the bands for the next week, so I did a little bit of research..
Staple Singers: Laurie Anderson: She kind of reminds me of a female version of Phillip Glass: Byrds.. I'd heard of them before, just couldn't remember any of their songs: If I was unfamiliar with them, I'm sure that there were others as well.. Anyways, my votes are probably going to Clapton, Hollies, AC/DC, and Journey. Here's The Hollies with what seems like a precursor to the Rock Ballad:

Laurie Anderson is more like a female Frank Zappa, instead of using instruments, she uses her voice. Combined with some amazing performance art. She's been an uncredited influence on many bands for a long, long time now.

I saw Laurie live back in the 80s: a great show that was part gig, part art.
