And really, there are a lot of great bands from past decades as well that just never made it big. If you can find obscure rock albums from the 60s' and 70s'. you can see what kept me occupied in high school. There is a lot of great stuff out there, but most people just skim from the top layer of public knowledge. |

![]() From my standpoint, good movie, so-so greatest hits(up until that time) album. As concept albums go, it met largely with tepid critical reactions. Of course, critics were more prone to the mainstream at that time and Tommy has garnered more favor since.
But the movie was late director Ken Russell's second best film(behind The Devils) IMO. Russell is either a director you like or hate, there's never been a middle ground with him. He also did more for Tommy than the Who did. The characterizations by Oliver Reed, Keith Moon, Tina Turner and Ann-Margret(wallowing in pork and beans) are very memorable. Russell was always a proponent that classical music was the first historical representation of the rock show. After viewing Mahler, Listzomania and The Music Lovers, you'll agree. His visual style was a big influence on music video artists and it could be said he helped create MTV. Talk. We'll listen.

![]() Tommy was a great movie, when seen it the context of its time (the early 70s), but Tommy the album is much better than Tommy the soundtrack.

![]() Tina Turner isn't in The Who? Wow. I could've gone forever without noticing that.
![]() I suppose I just thought that there was no need for one to be released being that the album by The Who is basically telling the same story. |

![]() What referencing of the Who and the medium of visual film would be complete without Roger Daltrey's turn at Tales from the Crypt?
