Riots and looting and mass murder is not far behind.

Good place to be from. For the most part I really like it up here.

I rarely go to wally world as I try, where possible, to support local business'. But as of last Friday paper products of all kinds were abundant. Can't verify this (sorry) but I "seem to remember" seeing some type of sign limiting sales. It was probably at this store but I can't remember for sure. Will have to keep that in mind the next time I'm there.

I've been using the above link to track the coronavirus in the United States and cross-checking with multiple sources and staying away from news sources claiming the sky is falling or the current administration which I don't trust to convey truthful or accurate information.
Took a quick look at that site and do have a concern. Wikipedia is useful but does have a reputation for not being edited as accurately as needed. As I understand the site (I've never submitted anything there) anyone can submit whatever they want. No matter if its true or false. I guess they eventually correct the falsehoods but I don't know for sure.

If the Health and Science reporter from the NY Times is to be believed (as well as many others) I think the exposure rate of 50% of the population is probably high and maybe alarmist. 30% is probably more realistic.

And as you obviously know, don't believe a word out of this federal administration. They are just trying to cover their derriere's. Anyone who believes they're drivel deserve whatever happens to them.

I am concerned that might be about to change. There have been coronavirus cases popping up all around the region. I am wondering if things didn't change over the weekend and people haven't started stocking frozen foods? I am going to go in today and get a bunch of frozen sausage patties. Get a bunch of hamburger patties and freeze them.
It seems to me the following is a good strategy for dealing with this virus.

First, you don't want to go out any more than necessary. So if you have to go out, make the most of it. We all need groceries but we need to be responsible to ourselves and our community. Every time out, pick up what you need PLUS a little bit more. Pick up your frozen vegetables but remember that, in this situation, canned vegetables may be better. Yes, canned doesn't taste as good as frozen, but canned lasts far longer than frozen. Its possible, if this virus really gets going, that electric supplies become sporadic (heresy I know in the US but ask people about that in other areas of the world)?

Also remember that this virus will probably disappear for us in the northern hemisphere this summer. But may reappear next fall and winter when it could be much more virulent. So, in order to protect yourself and your family, try and build up enough food and staples to last for at least six months. IF things do get bad then you can just stay home and support your family. Yes, the food may not be that good. But you and your family are still alive.

Pandemics aren't new. They're just new to us. Learn from history. It really is an amazing teacher.

This is crazy but what do you do??? I could stand to lose a lot of weight. Maybe going hungry would be ok.[/QUOTE]

Even people without any symptoms of any type of flu are locking themselves up in their houses. Matter of fact, when I walked my uncle's dog, this morning, there was LITERALLY no one in the streets.
Thanks! I hope you will continue with these reports of whats happening in Italy. You're ahead of us in the US and our politicians are trying to fool us. We need to know what is really happening. Please, keep it up.

Makes sense. Why isn't every country doing this?
I can think of one reason. If you have to spend two weeks in quarantine before actually visiting Israel, why go to Israel? I mean, if I was planning a visit to Israel I think I'd be planning on going elsewhere. Why would anyone want to spend two weeks in quarantine before starting their actual vacation?

Here in the US most people usually only get two weeks of vacation. Why would you want to spend it all in quarantine? May be better to go elsewhere.

The touching your face thing is really hard. Over the last few days I've been trying to keep track of how often I do that and its still more than I'd like (especially when I wake up).

But you have to get better at it. It may save your life.

You are looking at it from a tourist perspective. Look at it from a residents perspective. Uniquely, I don't think the US could close its' borders, but it is an option for many other countries. Italy has done just that.

Cheers

Not just to the south, but also to the north (Piedmont, Val D'Aosta, etc), east, west and all islands: in fact the whole country is now under quarantine, with internal travel restrictions.

The British government advises against all but essential travel to Italy:

Here's how it is in the country:

Stay inside, don't travel, don't socialise:
Italy's coronavirus lockdown rules

Country’s prime minister has put the nation of 60 million people under special quarantine measures

Italians have been told to stay at home and avoid all non-essential travel as quarantine measures were extended to the whole country to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Here are the main points of a government decree signed on Monday night that brings the restrictions into effect until 3 April.

Don’t travel

From Tuesday, the movements of Italy’s population of 60 million are severely limited. Travel is only allowed for “urgent, verifiable work situations and emergencies or health reasons”.

People who have tested positive for Covid-19 must not leave their homes for any reason, while anyone with a fever or respiratory symptoms are strongly encouraged to stay at home and limit social contact, including with their doctor.

To avoid work-related travel, public and private companies have been urged to put their staff on leave.

Gatherings cancelled

The latest decree prohibits “all forms of gatherings in public places or sites open to the public” – going further than the rules that went into force over the weekend in large parts of northern Italy.

Sporting events of all levels and disciplines were cancelled, stopping play in the top-flight Serie-A football league.

High-level professional training for top national sports events and competitions organised by international bodies, such as the Olympic Games, may go ahead without spectators. All athletes, coaches and managers will undergo health checks.

Swimming pools, spas, sports halls and wellness centres must not operate, and ski resorts across the country are shut.

Venues closed

To encourage people to stay in, bars and restaurants are only allowed to open between 6am and 6pm, and only if it is possible to keep a distance of at least a metre between customers.

All museums and cultural venues are closed, as well as nightclubs, cinemas, theatres and casinos, which have been shut since the weekend.

While supermarkets will remain open, large shopping centres and department stores must close on public holidays and the day before public holidays.

School’s out

Schools and universities are closed, and all exams cancelled.

Religious institutions will stay open, as long as people can stay a metre from one another – but ceremonies such as marriages, baptisms and funerals are banned.

New York State itself is manufacturing it's own hand sanititizer. They will be able to produce 100,000 gallons a week in 1.7oz, 7oz, and gallon bottles.

It will also be free to residents of the state with priority going to the hardest hit areas first. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

It is.

All that NY needs now, is to also manufacture its own testing kits, since these seem to be in short supply in the USA.
