Not a damn thing wrong with reel to reel. The best tape recordings I ever made we're on a reel to reel running at top speed. Very full and clear recordings. And I think they are fun to use.

Along with a nice 2-CD compilation, you can find the following, and more ...

Where I'm Coming From (1971) -- the lead-in to the amazing
Music Of My Mind (1972) -- which is somehow topped by
Talking Book (1972) -- which is somehow equaled by
Innervisions (1973) -- which is almost equaled by
Fulfillingness's First Finale (1974) -- which is topped by the double-album
Songs In The Key Of Life (1976) -- arguably the best pop album of the 1970s, and maybe more.

Most are 2000 remasters, along with an Innervisions MFSL remaster, and on "my list" are the rest of the MFSL remasters, or the 2010 Audio Fidelity Gold CDs, whichever I like better. Its a real shame Stevie lost, because he's had an unbelievable career, and that string of albums will never be surpassed by any solo artist.

Then again, it helps to have the R&B/Funk Bone. Do you?

Does the sound of a thumb-plucked bass and perhaps some cowbell make your feet twitch? I'm not talking "Disco", I'm talking before that, dammit. Growing up near Philadelphia in the 1970s, the Funk Bone was mandatory. Sure, I drooled over every vinyl that Led Zep put out, and smoked my bodyweight on Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd ... but you got to got to got to got to got to got to ... have a little soul as well.

Stevie at that time had da Funk, had Soul, had Rock, had Pop, friggin' had everything. And before you had Rap, before you had Hippity-Hop, before you had flippin' Run DMC or Grandmaster Flash -- you had artists like Stevie.

Also bumming that Pearl Jam got bitch-slapped.

Too many people must have enjoyed the MTV pop of 1980's Aerosmith, e.g. "Janey Got a Gun", "Love in an Elevator", etc. Blech. CCR was a great "singles" band. No doubt about it, but Fogerty could never construct an entire Album like Stevie could, or even LZ. Plus, they were so short-lived in the mainstream! Only 1968-1970, because their later albums from 1972 and 1973 were nowhere near their previous quality, Fogerty had shot his wad. Ahhh well, they're through, and I can't say they don't deserve it.

Bring on the next group!

I have not gone back and peeked, so I'm anxious to be surprised, and have my brain implode trying to pick 3.

The votes I gave somehow reflects my age.
In my former life I was a parttime DJ and loved to see the floor move.
The records which were chosen made the mood go up or down, but mostly up and this was one of the records which could set a dancefloor alive.

Half asleep. always get hooked on WWII stuff. sure enuf FDR video on history channel for 2 hours 11-1am.. do'h. although my interest isn't usually the japanese part. It's Hitler vs Stalin. Both bad guys, but like Darth Vader and the Emp.. the really bad one had to be taken down first...

Nirvana , spec Kurt Cobain will always be there. Like Nine Inch Nails was kidded around for liking Nirvana. Went on our senior class trip to Chicago of all places April 8-12 1994. Didn't find out till well the 12th. Never totally got over it. Remember at the time the grown ups (ha) were worried about mass suicides over it. zzzz (if it was a suicide. courtney love???)

Meanwhile Van Halen, specifically, Eddie. Is an asshole of the worst sort. Makes stuff up all the time. I actually hate the guy. Axl Rose, not really. He'll always have anger issue's I think. So picked The Doors instead.

ZZ Top , well they go without saying. But I'll leave myself to sleep on Kurts best.
