The Waluigi game I've had in my head for years is a Mario RPG where he's the villain. The premise is that via some magical macguffin Waluigi turns everyone into Waluigi (i.e. putting masks on them that make them think and act like him). Because if everyone is Waluigi, everyone will love Waluigi.
What about a game where everybody's star power is stolen and the only one who can get it back is the only person who doesn't have any? He could use different home-made gadgets akin to paper mario badges/items, and by the end of the game, gets recognized by everyone else? Or he just finds this as the best opportunity to get some power for himself?
I theorize that Waluigi's self-pity, his resentment towards the main Mario cast, and his self-appointed role as Luigi's foe are all linked to the fact that he lacks the fantastical powers of his rivals. See, Mario, Luigi, and even Wario are all "Star Children," granted great powers at birth. This explains why they can do all the "super" stuff they do. Waluigi though? He's just some dude. It's specified in quite a few games that he works extremely hard to sharpen his skills to a point where they can keep up with the others. Indeed, I like to think the whole reason he BUILT this "Waluigi" persona was just so he'd be noticed. Nobody cared who he was until he related himself to the Mario Brothers. And yet despite all of his efforts, he ALWAYS comes in last. Hence his self-pity and festering resentment towards everyone else. Waluigi cheats because in his mind he DESERVES to win.
Perhaps, but this theory can easily be turned on its head. He may be so much more "super" than all the others that he's being excluded out of pure fear. Camelot did such a great job designing Waluigi. Wario, visually, was meant to an exaggeration of Mario's main physical traits, and Waluigi reflects his counterpart in the same way perfectly. Also, be this a prediction, a coincidence, or otherwise, his personality and self pity perfectly reflects how he is treated as a character. Sure he gets into Party and Kart games, but no matter what he cant seem to reach the main status the other 3 do. Another comment mentioned how Mario, Luigi, and Wario are "star children" and this reflects how those characters are Nintendo-created while Waluigi was not. In his own way, he fits into the series like a puzzle piece, and I find that very cool.
And the reason why Waluigi has the Greek letter Γ γ because his name in Greek is Γουαλουίτζι and because it looks like an inverted L and because of Wario's W that looks like an inverted M
If memory serves, I think Waluigi is just not very popular to the Japanese audience, most of which truly being baffled at why the Western audience likes him so much.
I think he’s an excellent character design, especially for a villain-very classical Dastardly Dan, and yet very characteristic of the Mario universe, as well. He’s a great foil to Wario in both the way he looks as well as the way he acts as Wario’s sidekick, and just like how Wario is but a mere nuisance to Mario, Waluigi is the same to Luigi. I think he’s an excellent addition to the extended Mario universe and I believe that without him, Wario wouldn’t be half as popular or relevant as he is today.

I like the idea of the game concepts being opposites for the Mario Bros and the Wario Bros. Mario is saving a kingdom, Wario is trying to get rich to make his own kingdom. Luigi is trying to capture and exorcise ghosts, we can have Waluigi causing mischief by antagonizing monsters around the world
Maybe he found out about Luigi having a Mansion of all things and breaking in to mess stuff up or steal things, only to be atttacked by ghosts as well. How funny would it be if it happened the same time while Luigi was there and Waluigi had to scramble to hide from him!
I think a stealth-adjacent heist game is a brilliant idea for Waluigi. I've also had an idea in my head for years to team him up with Daisy (in a Super Paper Mario Mr. L kind of masked getup) for a Superstar Saga type RPG. One where some sort of entirely new (or similarly niche and forgotten?) villain manages to capture the main characters (Mario, Bowser, Peach, Luigi, etc) and the two are only spared because the villain doesn't know who they are nor see them as any sort of threat. And for the whole game they aren't just fighting to save the world, but also fighting against this "useless" kind of preconception about them. Where even good guys like toads don't see them as any sort of use.
The big reveal they're waiting for is Mario movie 2. In that, Wario and Waluigi will be the antagonists and they'll get new origin stories to replace the weird and dumb stork tale. After that, Wario & Waluigi: Double Trouble will be an AWESOME spinoff of the Mario & Luigi RPG series. Where the player controls the dastardly duo on their own anti-heroic quest to rob dry the Mushroom kingdom AND koopa kingdom (and Sarasaland, etc.), and then fight the ENTIRE Mario WORLD to keep their fortune. We'd get to really further develop Wario and Waluigi's character, as both will be given actual text dialogue instead of just garbled italian. We'd get boss fights AGAINST the Mario bros, for the first time ever. We'd also really flesh out the lore far more. I think Waluigi having a massive crush on Daisy only to get constantly brutally rejected should be major feature too, further cementing his villainous loyalty to Wario.
I think I have a strong theory on what Nintendo's logic is with Waluigi. The big appeal of Waluigi is how unfairly he is treated. If they gave him a game or lots of merch, defeats the entire mystique so they kind of have to be uncaring.
In my mind im imagining a reveal trailer for smash where Wario trips as a perjectile fly’s towards him, only for a figure to jump infront and bat it away with a Tennis Racket. Starting from the racket the camera slowly pans outwards in a really epic and drawn out fashion to reveal Waluigi.

I feel like Nintendo's issue is they don't know what to DO with Waluigi outside party games. Mario and Luigi were the Mario brothers that built the franchise, Wario was the anti-Mario who got his own weird spin-off games. How do you make a Waluigi game that wouldn't be interchangeable with Wario, or another villain? It's a feedback loop, he's under-represented so his character development is vague (and only exists with respect to Wario, Luigi, and Mario) which means he can't be differentiated, which means he continues to be under-represented.
My Waluigi game idea was him taking over different kingdoms based on different videogame genre types. Also I got married on Mario Day a year ago, and went as Waluigi.
Well all I want is a brutal, realistic Waluigi RPG taking place in a medieval, post apocalyptic mushroom kingdom set 160 years after a nuclear war between the powers of reptile, goomba, mushroom and man have devastated the landscape. New factions and alliances arise as both magic and technology are being rediscovered, which side will Waluigi be on? Or will he strive to build his own empire?
With the dark rings under his eyes, you can clearly see he is suffering from severe insomnia, so it would be nice to explore it in a SM rpg style game, similar to Luigi's Dream World, but instead we have Wario going into Waluigi's "Nightmares" much like Mario went into Luigi's Dreams. I feel like we could use the opportunity to explore some of Waluigi's origins and motivations, especially the sports aspect, since competition and sports seems to be the only things he cares about.
Okay, I actually really want to play that Waluigi world game. Having a platformer but all the worlds are themed around different sports actually sounds fun.
Waluigi is the villain they call up for the fun stuff. Wario calls him up: "Want to help me torment Mario and steal some stuff?" "Nah, but let me know when you're playing tennis or driving go karts. Oh and if the Olympics come up, I'm in."
If Miyamoto hasn't personally created a series or character, they will get far less content, especially within a series that he has. I don't personally understand the Waluigi hype, but I do understand the frustration of Nintendo ignoring good things that I want them not to ignore, so I can relate on that level.
here's an idea for a waluigi game: waluigi finds a misterious map that leads him to a forgotten valley/cave sistem that has some good tresure, now waluigi has to find new equipment like a wall-crawler or a torpedo suit while learn new move sets/dances troughout the game, it would probably be a 3d game because i think it's kinda weird a 2d waluigi game
A possibility for a game where Waluigi is the hero/anti hero could involve Mario, Luigi, and Wario already out on some adventure or other errand, and the people come to him out of desperation, if only because he has been known to work with the greedy big guy. Instead of facing foes head on, he could use gadgets and tricks to overcome challenges. Possibly even earning his in canon fame once and for all. As for villain roles... If it were an rpg game, he could attempt to plead for his big chance as a big shot to say... The star spirits or something, get rejected, and turn to the ztars instead to get revenge. Edit: Another thought to Waluigi earning his fame in some way. He pulls some mischief that causes serious problems and is forced to clean up the mess, only to find other worse dangers working in the wings. He could, reluctantly at first, go above and beyond to save the day even after fixing what he messed up. Heck, the actions of other villains could at first be pinned on the lanky purple fellow, up until near the end maybe, where people are starting to recognize that the continuing problems don't fit Waluigi's M.O.
I like that luigi’s mansion idea, but what makes it better is Waluigi and Luigi both share interest in Daisy. That would make for a great story piece between the two rivals. I have an idea for a detective game about Waluigi. He’s a struggling PI and it’d play like LA NOIRE and Heaby Rain with the goofiness of a Mario game.
I like Waluigi beyond all the dumb memes and shit like that, purely because I used to play as him in Mario Kart and call him “Lanky Long Legs”. It’s a dumb reason, but it made me feel genuinely attached to the character, and seeing my boy get shat on so much by Nintendo makes me really sad
WaLuigi has one thing going for him.. He is loved. The fans adore him. And no matter how much nintendo ignores him.. He will always be a favorite. If only Waluigi Knew
That heist game idea just sounds great, but I have an idea for the final level for that. The duo break into peach's vault dodging all kinds of security, and after getting past all that when they enter the vault it is filled to the brim with riches. Instead of looting all the riches they can they look into a storage box in the corner of the room and pull out the most treasured thing of all; a pass into Super Smash bros. This of course activates an alarm and they end up having to face off against the Mario bros before high tailing it out of there and riding off into the sunrise.
In regards to the last suggestion what if Wario and Waluigi teamed up with Captain Syrup or Tatanga for a heist. It could bring all of the Mario Land stuff tied back together
Waluigi definitely has a lot of potential as a character, especially for motivations. It is such a persistent joke with him getting snubbed, it almost seems natural to imply that he desires recognition. A game much like the first where he uses the skills that he's learned by being permanently snubbed from the limelight could give him the thing that he could very reasonably want more than anything: acknowledgement of his efforts and achievements.
I wish that alpha dream made an entry into the Mario and Luigi Rpgs called Mario and Luigi vs Wario and Waluigi it would just be so damn fitting but alas they went bankrupt
It was confirmed by some ex Nintendo employees that Wario and Waluigi are Secret lovers. You can just tell the sexual tension boiling to the surface when the both are together. Their passionate romantic love made to be the opposite of Mario and Luigi's brotherly love.
I always kinda saw (and personally preferred) our dude as an self absorbed Antihero rather than a straight up villain. Given that Wario has helped put Mario and Luigi before, Waluigi i believe would help also in the right circumstances. Plus, Super Sluggers and Adventure Tours Mode in the Olympic Winter Games was another prime example of that for me as well
Here's a game idea. Waluigi gets lost or wonders off one day, the baddie without the spot light when he stumbles upon a lost and ruined kingdom. (Hub world) You find little minions you can save to do your bidding all Pikmin style, which you can use them to defeat other baddies to collect stuff to restore this ruined kingdom then Waluigi is crowned king of these minions and has his own kingdom.
I originally thought about a vehicle-building platformer game, but then Nintendo made Tears of the Kingdom, so now the idea is a little redundant. The idea is that Waluigi accidentally discovers a plot by a villain that would kidnap every princess in order to upstage Bowser and he's getting an engineer to build a machine for it. Waluigi ends up begrudgingly partnered with the engineer's talking toolbelt and they have to figure out how to reach the lair in a seemingly inaccessible part of the world. To build a device capable of reaching the lair, they have to find blueprints for newer, more versatile parts by completing challenges and helping people solve problems. Naturally, since Waluigi isn't well liked, he needs to build up a reputation with the local population before they feel willing to share their problems with him. The core loop is solve problems, gain reputation/coins, buy materials, build better gadgets, do challenges, get blueprints, new exploration options, new locations, repeat.
if waluigi is going to shine he has to separate himself from his sports. id love to see him as a romantic, wine snob villain, contrasting wario's greedy, slob portrayals.
The next pedia should be on Captain Walker from Spec Ops The Line, don't know if you would make him a villain or "hero" depending on how you view it. He would be an interesting character to dissect with your perspective.
Nintendo can neglect Waluigi all they want but they know the fans love him. It's only a matter of time before they do something with him. Until that day comes, I'll never stop supporting Waluigi. He's unironically my favorite Mario character and always has been since I was little
The double trouble game could honestly be Nintendo’s answer to GTA. A less violent open world game set in New Donk City. Maybe they have to take over the criminal underworld by defeating different legacy bosses (I.e Bowser, DK Jr., fawful etc.) and taking over their territory.
I wrote a Nintendo-themed TTRPG setting where Waluigi was an android -found- created by Wario to serve as an assistant in schemes. It explained why he just "showed up" and isn't as well-developed as other characters.
that heist game if it will ever even exist it may become a spiritual successor to the Mario & Luigi games there is potential to have the feel of those games in there (with maybe a Luigi's Mansion coat of paint)
I think that Nintendo just doesn't know what to do with the guy. I mean, who IS Waluigi? Mario is the hero, Luigi is the scared one, Wario is the greedy one. What is Waluigi's deal? What does he like? Sports? But the other characters also do this, so it doesnt define him as different. I think the only thing that I've seen Waluigi do that is 100% him is twirling a rose around. Waluigi needs to first star next to Wario in a co-op game, where he can get a PERSONALITY. (Personally I think Waluigi would be the vain one? Like with the rose. He kinda reminds me of James from Team Rocket). Only when Waluiugi gets his own gimmick can he be part of other games. OR IN SMASH. You can't figure out a move-set if your character is nothing but a blank slate!

waluigi is the kind of dude who ties you to train tracks on the first date.
However the instructions he's reading are unclear so he accidentally ties himself to the tracks instead.
The big reveal they're waiting for is Mario movie 2. In that, Wario and Waluigi will be the antagonists and they'll get new origin stories to replace the weird and dumb stork tale.
After that, Wario & Waluigi: Double Trouble will be an AWESOME spinoff of the Mario & Luigi RPG series. Where the player controls the dastardly duo on their own anti-heroic quest to rob dry the Mushroom kingdom AND koopa kingdom (and Sarasaland, etc.), and then fight the ENTIRE Mario WORLD to keep their fortune. We'd get to really further develop Wario and Waluigi's character, as both will be given actual text dialogue instead of just garbled italian. We'd get boss fights AGAINST the Mario bros, for the first time ever. We'd also really flesh out the lore far more. I think Waluigi having a massive crush on Daisy only to get constantly brutally rejected should be major feature too, further cementing his villainous loyalty to Wario.
I think I have a strong theory on what Nintendo's logic is with Waluigi. The big appeal of Waluigi is how unfairly he is treated. If they gave him a game or lots of merch, defeats the entire mystique so they kind of have to be uncaring.
In my mind im imagining a reveal trailer for smash where Wario trips as a perjectile fly’s towards him, only for a figure to jump infront and bat it away with a Tennis Racket. Starting from the racket the camera slowly pans outwards in a really epic and drawn out fashion to reveal Waluigi.

you mentioned it briefly, but the unspoken visual comedy of Waluigi's cap is great. at first, most people probably thought Wario's cap stood for, well, Wario. but then Waluigi flips everything (literally) on its head
I feel like Nintendo's issue is they don't know what to DO with Waluigi outside party games. Mario and Luigi were the Mario brothers that built the franchise, Wario was the anti-Mario who got his own weird spin-off games. How do you make a Waluigi game that wouldn't be interchangeable with Wario, or another villain? It's a feedback loop, he's under-represented so his character development is vague (and only exists with respect to Wario, Luigi, and Mario) which means he can't be differentiated, which means he continues to be under-represented.
My Waluigi game idea was him taking over different kingdoms based on different videogame genre types. Also I got married on Mario Day a year ago, and went as Waluigi.
Waluigi's mansion feels like the best bet for him to be front and center in a mainline game. I hope it happens one day.

Well all I want is a brutal, realistic Waluigi RPG taking place in a medieval, post apocalyptic mushroom kingdom set 160 years after a nuclear war between the powers of reptile, goomba, mushroom and man have devastated the landscape. New factions and alliances arise as both magic and technology are being rediscovered, which side will Waluigi be on? Or will he strive to build his own empire?

With the dark rings under his eyes, you can clearly see he is suffering from severe insomnia, so it would be nice to explore it in a SM rpg style game, similar to Luigi's Dream World, but instead we have Wario going into Waluigi's "Nightmares" much like Mario went into Luigi's Dreams. I feel like we could use the opportunity to explore some of Waluigi's origins and motivations, especially the sports aspect, since competition and sports seems to be the only things he cares about.
Okay, I actually really want to play that Waluigi world game. Having a platformer but all the worlds are themed around different sports actually sounds fun.
Waluigi gives off the same energy as scelatore, they love being bad, being the worst type of person imaginable.
Waluigi is the villain they call up for the fun stuff. Wario calls him up:
"Want to help me torment Mario and steal some stuff?"
"Nah, but let me know when you're playing tennis or driving go karts. Oh and if the Olympics come up, I'm in."
If Miyamoto hasn't personally created a series or character, they will get far less content, especially within a series that he has. I don't personally understand the Waluigi hype, but I do understand the frustration of Nintendo ignoring good things that I want them not to ignore, so I can relate on that level.

here's an idea for a waluigi game: waluigi finds a misterious map that leads him to a forgotten valley/cave sistem that has some good tresure, now waluigi has to find new equipment like a wall-crawler or a torpedo suit while learn new move sets/dances troughout the game, it would probably be a 3d game because i think it's kinda weird a 2d waluigi game

A possibility for a game where Waluigi is the hero/anti hero could involve Mario, Luigi, and Wario already out on some adventure or other errand, and the people come to him out of desperation, if only because he has been known to work with the greedy big guy. Instead of facing foes head on, he could use gadgets and tricks to overcome challenges. Possibly even earning his in canon fame once and for all. As for villain roles... If it were an rpg game, he could attempt to plead for his big chance as a big shot to say... The star spirits or something, get rejected, and turn to the ztars instead to get revenge.
Edit: Another thought to Waluigi earning his fame in some way. He pulls some mischief that causes serious problems and is forced to clean up the mess, only to find other worse dangers working in the wings. He could, reluctantly at first, go above and beyond to save the day even after fixing what he messed up. Heck, the actions of other villains could at first be pinned on the lanky purple fellow, up until near the end maybe, where people are starting to recognize that the continuing problems don't fit Waluigi's M.O.
I like that luigi’s mansion idea, but what makes it better is Waluigi and Luigi both share interest in Daisy. That would make for a great story piece between the two rivals. I have an idea for a detective game about Waluigi. He’s a struggling PI and it’d play like LA NOIRE and Heaby Rain with the goofiness of a Mario game.

That heist game idea just sounds great, but I have an idea for the final level for that.
The duo break into peach's vault dodging all kinds of security, and after getting past all that when they enter the vault it is filled to the brim with riches. Instead of looting all the riches they can they look into a storage box in the corner of the room and pull out the most treasured thing of all; a pass into Super Smash bros. This of course activates an alarm and they end up having to face off against the Mario bros before high tailing it out of there and riding off into the sunrise.

The thief idea for a waluigi game is perfect!
Waluigi definitely has a lot of potential as a character, especially for motivations. It is such a persistent joke with him getting snubbed, it almost seems natural to imply that he desires recognition. A game much like the first where he uses the skills that he's learned by being permanently snubbed from the limelight could give him the thing that he could very reasonably want more than anything: acknowledgement of his efforts and achievements.

I always kinda saw (and personally preferred) our dude as an self absorbed Antihero rather than a straight up villain. Given that Wario has helped put Mario and Luigi before, Waluigi i believe would help also in the right circumstances. Plus, Super Sluggers and Adventure Tours Mode in the Olympic Winter Games was another prime example of that for me as well

Here's a game idea. Waluigi gets lost or wonders off one day, the baddie without the spot light when he stumbles upon a lost and ruined kingdom. (Hub world) You find little minions you can save to do your bidding all Pikmin style, which you can use them to defeat other baddies to collect stuff to restore this ruined kingdom then Waluigi is crowned king of these minions and has his own kingdom.
What about a Luigi's Mansion Four where, every now and then, Waluigi busts in in badly applied makeup and two ghosts try to restrain him or smth?
I originally thought about a vehicle-building platformer game, but then Nintendo made Tears of the Kingdom, so now the idea is a little redundant. The idea is that Waluigi accidentally discovers a plot by a villain that would kidnap every princess in order to upstage Bowser and he's getting an engineer to build a machine for it. Waluigi ends up begrudgingly partnered with the engineer's talking toolbelt and they have to figure out how to reach the lair in a seemingly inaccessible part of the world. To build a device capable of reaching the lair, they have to find blueprints for newer, more versatile parts by completing challenges and helping people solve problems. Naturally, since Waluigi isn't well liked, he needs to build up a reputation with the local population before they feel willing to share their problems with him. The core loop is solve problems, gain reputation/coins, buy materials, build better gadgets, do challenges, get blueprints, new exploration options, new locations, repeat.
if waluigi is going to shine he has to separate himself from his sports.
id love to see him as a romantic, wine snob villain, contrasting wario's greedy, slob portrayals.

The double trouble game could honestly be Nintendo’s answer to GTA. A less violent open world game set in New Donk City. Maybe they have to take over the criminal underworld by defeating different legacy bosses (I.e Bowser, DK Jr., fawful etc.) and taking over their territory.

I wrote a Nintendo-themed TTRPG setting where Waluigi was an android -found- created by Wario to serve as an assistant in schemes. It explained why he just "showed up" and isn't as well-developed as other characters.

The Wario Bros. have exaggerated characteristics of their counterparts. If Luigi is always in Mario's shadow, then Waluigi is in _everyone's_ shadow.
It's not Mario's crew that didn't invite Walluigi, it's Nintendo.
I think that Nintendo just doesn't know what to do with the guy. I mean, who IS Waluigi? Mario is the hero, Luigi is the scared one, Wario is the greedy one. What is Waluigi's deal? What does he like? Sports? But the other characters also do this, so it doesnt define him as different. I think the only thing that I've seen Waluigi do that is 100% him is twirling a rose around. Waluigi needs to first star next to Wario in a co-op game, where he can get a PERSONALITY. (Personally I think Waluigi would be the vain one? Like with the rose. He kinda reminds me of James from Team Rocket). Only when Waluiugi gets his own gimmick can he be part of other games. OR IN SMASH. You can't figure out a move-set if your character is nothing but a blank slate!
