Path of Fury: Episode I - Tetsuo's Tower is a cinematic kung-fu virtual reality video game released on March 13, 2025 for Meta Quest headsets. It was directed by Leonard Menchiari.[1], the creator of Trek to Yomi, and distributed by ABONICO GAME WORKS[2]

Story

[edit]

Path of Fury: Episode I - Tetsuo's Tower tells a story of revenge in which the player must climb to the top of a tower to confront Tetsuo, the king of crime in the city, facing increasingly powerful enemies on each floor. It pays homage to classic Chinese kung-fu cinema, games like Sifu and old arcade games.

Gameplay

[edit]

The game offers a first-person combat experience where players must fight their way through multiple levels of enemies using only their fists. It features on-rails movement mechanics, meaning that player movement is automatic, allowing focus on combat and strategy. Each enemy has specific weaknesses that the player must identify and exploit to advance.

Combat focuses on precision and speed, with enemies showing their weaknesses and future strikes, giving the player the opportunity to block and counterattack effectively. The structure of the game is designed to be linear, but the developer's goal was to present a fresh experience in each session.

Players can play thought the story or challenge themselves on arenas that work as a survival mode. The experience is all single-player. There’s also settings to adjust the difficulty and an option to measure best times by activating the on-screen timer during gameplay.

Development and release

[edit]

Path of Fury: Episode I - Tetsuo's Tower received generally favorable reviews on Metacritic with a score of 76 (based on 5 reviews).[4]

Diego Nicolás Argüello of UploadVR describes the game as: “Every session of Path of Fury ends with the same ritual. You wipe your headset lenses, push your hand across your sweating eyebrows, and look at the calorie count on your watch.”[5]

Influences and style

[edit]

Path of Fury: Episode I - Tetsuo's Tower draws inspiration from martial arts and action movies from the 1980s and 1990s, as well as classic arcade video games. The game seeks to capture the essence of kung-fu films and combine it with current virtual reality technology to offer an immersive and dynamic experience.[6]

It also received full bHaptics[7] support for Vest, Arms and Visor devices on March 26, 2025. [8]
